Last week Warren and I went to New Grounds Cafe in Walnut Creek. This is a Christian hang out for teens and young people. It's been around for a few years.I've been there with my Yada prayer group girls and other friends and had gotten smoothies or dessert and coffee. But I had never gotten any of their hot food.We got a pizza and it was really,REALLY good! They also have calzones and different wraps, ice cream and Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. So if you live in the area, take your family and try out the food!!And they have internet access. We will definately be back for more!
I totally LOVE brownies! But,I have tried homemade brownies and I don't think they're as good as Betty Crocker brownies! If you think I'm nuts, and you have the perfect chewy homemade brownie recipe, please send it to me and I'll certainly try it.Anyways,I found this recipe from Betty Crocker. You take a family size brownie mix...mix according to directions and pour batter into a 13x9 pan. Then drop teaspoons of chocolate chip cookie dough randomly on top(homemade or use a Betty Crocker chocolate chip cookie mix...mix as directed).Kind of press it into the brownie batter. If you use the mix, don't use ALL the dough, just bake some cookies too.Bake for about 35-40 minutes at 350.Cool completely. You can leave it plain or use chocolate frosting.I put a ganache on top of this one.The recipe I used for ganache was 6 T butter,3/4 C heavy whipping cream and 12 oz.chocolate chips(I used Ghiradelli for a dark chocolate flavor). You bring the butter and cream almost to a boil, then pour it in a bowl over the chocolate chips.Let it set for 20 seconds, then stir. When the chips are all melted, pour over cooled brownies. Now the hardest part is you have to let the ganache set up.But go ahead and lick out the pan and the spoon. This is a very rich brownie, but then I love rich!Mmmm, gotta go eat one...
I follow a blog called "My Charming Kids".Their little MckMuffin needs lots of prayers right now.Click on his picture to go to MckMama's blog and you can read about what's happening. He needs lots of prayers right now!
Welcome back...riding on the fire engine through town to the high school.
A few of the upper classmen said a few words.Katelyn talking...
Me,Kate and Mary Beth.
We got the state runner up trophy on Sat.morning.The girls played splendidly during the first half and were ahead by 15 at halftime. But things turned around, the other team caught up and our team sort of fell apart and we lost.It was sad for the girls. But they came back today and they rode into town on fire trucks and we had a small welcome home thing at the gym for them.Last summer during scrimmages, they were 0-9...and a young team(1 senior). So they accomplished quite a bit this season, only losing one game and playing their last game in the state final! You go,girls!!!
Last night,I made 2 giant chocolate chip cookies in these new little deep dish pizza pans I bought this weekend. We had these cookies (called Pizzookies) at BJ's in Arizona and Columbus this weekend and I've been looking for some little pans, which I finally found in Williams Sonoma. So Warren and I each had one,hot and gooey, right out of the oven, with ice cream on top.Oh,so good...after which we cozied up on the couch and watched the movie "Fireproof".It was a very good Christian movie that every married couple should watch. The couple is on the brink of divorce and it shows how they got back together.Makes you think.Everyone should do the 40 days of kindness...It just makes sense.
I'm working on making a quilt wall hanging.I'm piecing it right now and that part is going pretty fast and it's pretty easy.I'm just going to be in trouble though when it's time to quilt, because I don't really know how!!!I wish I had a machine that could quilt!I'll post a picture of it when I'm done with the piecing part, which should be this week.
I had an ENT appointment last week.As usual,I had fluid in my left ear and she made a tiny slit in the eardrum and suctioned it.It sounds like the war of the worlds during suctioning,it's so loud!!My ear feels so open now, love it!If it could just last...
Well,we won our semi-final game! Now tomorrow morning at 10:45,we play in the final and we play the same team that we played in the finals last year...Columbus Africentric. They are tough, hopefully we can beat them again this year...We have to leave at 8 in the morning.I'm looking forward to a good game.Jeremy,Steph and the boys came and are staying overnight and Jeremy is going along to the game.We had fun playing with the boys this evening! Now,time for my treatments and then BED!For any of the out of state cousins that want to watch streaming video,go to www.ohiohssports.com Scroll down and click on the Div.IV game.
This was yesterday when our high school girls were getting ready to leave for Columbus to play in the state semi-final and hopefully the final game on Sat.They will be there all weekend, coming home on Sunday afternoon. My niece Katelyn plays the post position. She is the one in the purple shirt holding the pillow.
My sister with Katelyn.
A prayer before leaving...
Ready to go...
Today I'm heading to Columbus to watch the Lady Hawks play in the semi-finals of the state basketball tournament. It is such a nice bunch of girls and I'm so proud of them! They are the defending state champs in division IV from last year. They have lost one game this year.If anybody around here can't get to the game, you can watch it online at www.ohiohssports.com.It is a beautiful sunny day and I'm feeling good.GO LADY HAWKS!!!
This is my little Meggie dog,who loves to be warm!I had just folded towels right out of the dryer and she found a couple to get comfortable on!If I'm laying on my heating pad, she'll paw at me to move over and share. She's a lot like me,we just love to be warm!
I LOVE the girl scout samoas!I bought two boxes the other day outside of Sam's Club and instantly ate half the box. That's why I only bought two boxes instead of five. Now though,I'm regretting it because I only have half a box left!I found a recipe for homemade samoas online.I looked at it and it looked like a lot of work. Then I found one for samoa barshere which seemed easier, except you do have to dip each bar individually in chocolate. But I am so going to try a batch just to see how comparable they taste. This site also has recipes for other homemade girl scout cookies.Do you like samoas??What girl scout cookies are your favorite??And don't these look just soooo good!
